High Gloss Furniture: 4 Simple Care Tips

High gloss furniture may become a real problem if you don’t look after it properly. There’s a simple set of rules on how to take care of high gloss bedroom furniture  that will ensure its longevity. Even bedroom furniture  from the sturdiest materials is prone to damage due to mistakes we all make. For example, you should always clean up spills as soon as they happen, otherwise there’ll be a stain left on the surface. It is also important to change the places of accessories and other objects like statues and vases so they don’t get to sit at the same place for a very long time. Here are a few simple tips that will help you out.

High Gloss Bed

Be careful with where you put the furniture

Anything can damage these fragile surfaces, especially excessive heat. When you think about the spot for your wardrobe or a dressing table,  be sure that there’s no direct sunlight hitting it. Also, avoid putting your furniture next to heaters or air conditioners. Remember that rapid changes in temperature are always harmful for any kind of furniture.

Objects can easily scratch the surface

High gloss bedroom furniture sets are also vulnerable in the face of rubber objects and things made of metal. It’s wise to avoid dragging things, better lift them and then carefully place them. When writing on a high-gloss surface with a ball pen – use some kind of pad to avoid scratching. Some plastic objects can also damage the finish on your furniture because of chemicals in the plastic.

How to take care of high gloss bedroom furniture and polish it the right way

Whether you have a black or white high gloss bedroom furniture set it’s important to remember that not all polishes are equally good. All in all there are 3 care products you can use to clean your furniture: waxes, polishes and silicone cleaners. The silicone ones are really good in terms of creating shine, but they are dangerous because they can seep into the furniture’s surface. Wax is also not so good because after some time it builds on the surface and results in damaging it. It’s better to use polishes which contain natural oils, emulsifiers and detergents. This way the surface gets cleaned with the detergent, and mineral oils create a protective layer that fights off dirt and nasty particles that can harm furniture.

Material you should use with high-gloss furniture

Most high gloss furniture cleaning guides omit one simple rule – use the right type of cloth! Before you even consider using one, try fighting off dust by cleaning furniture with a feather duster – thus you avoid any kind of damage. If you want to use a cloth, be careful and choose a very soft and clean one; it should also be lint-free. When cleaning high gloss surfaces, don’t apply too much pressure. Simple dusting can be done quite often, but serious polishing shouldn’t be done more than two or three times a year.
