Dining Table and Chairs Are They Outdated?

While furniture trends dictate the look for many rooms, dining tables have been a staple in most homes for decades. Hey! We all have to have somewhere to eat. Still, with so many families living on the go and busy juggling hectic schedules, the whole gang hardly ever seems to sit down together for a meal these days. So, while it may seem almost sacrilegious, some people are considering doing away with their dining room tables! Before you join the crowd, listen to the reasons why you should hang on to yours.

First, the family unit is strengthened by the time shared at a common meal. That means your family sitting around a table to eat dinner, even if dinner is a pizza delivered by your neighbor’s nephew, is quality time that builds long-lasting familial bonds. Do away with those dining tables and you’ll be bonding with messy pizza on your good sofa. Think about that.

Secondly, the table provides a focal point for the space. Without a dining room table , it isn’t really a dining room at all anymore. What then is it? You could completely redo the space, but who wants a bedroom that opens onto the kitchen? Or a craft room that has a major traffic pattern running through it? It just doesn’t make sense.

The best reason, of course, the obvious one. You need a dining tables because, without out them, where are you going to put all of those unread magazines, piles of newspaper you need to take to the recycle bin, that arrangement of flowers from last Valentine’s day and other essentials of life? Where will you lose your keys? No. I am sorry. In this instance I refuse to bow to the trendsetters. My dining room table stays. True, it stays buried, but at least I know it is here… somewhere.
