Coffee Tables Can Do More Than Hold A Tray
I remember my dad didn’t like coffee tables . They were, in his words “catch alls”. By this he mean that everybody would leave things on them and they’d literally “catch all” of the junk people did not bother to put away. Fortunately, my mom prevailed and while it did get cluttered, we were able to find the surface now and again to hold a tray of drinks or a bowl of popcorn. The coffee table of today might have gotten Dad’s seal of approval. It seems they can do a lot more than catch junk and hold a tray.
My neighbor has an ottoman that serves as a coffee table, and yes, it was made for that purpose. So, she can prop her feet on it, or use it for table and it looks great. My own coffee table has a couple of neat little drawers under the surface so I can hide away things like the TV remote and an other “clutter” that threatens to be “caught” on the table’s surface. Other types are inlaid with great designs or you can get a glass-topped table that not only discourages clutter on the top, but under the table, too!
Coffee tables don’t seem to be as much of a household necessity in this modern age. We don’t all gather around in the living room to watch television and eat popcorn together like we once did. Still, we all have occasions when we have guests or family in our living room and want to serve up a tray of drinks or snacks. You might even elect to use your coffee table for serving, believe it or not, coffee!
Whether you’re decorating your first home or redecorating, don’t leave out the coffee table. With today’s styles, there’s little danger of catching too much clutter, but it might snag a few compliments.
