Bedside Cabinets in Dark Wood Furniture

In the modern world there are a lot of types of furniture: it seems that each type of furniture is available in many styles and even more designs. Like every other industry, there have been a lot of changes in the furniture manufacturing sector, in design studios and of course in what is considered modern and stylish. One type of huge change has been in the type of material that furniture can be made from. In the modern marketplace you can find furniture made from plastic, metal, rubber, bamboo and even old glass bottles! Interesting as these new materials are there is one traditional material which has maintained its place as the most popular both with customers and makers. It is of course, wood. There are lots of types of wood used for the manufacture of furniture. These range from teak to pine and from oak to walnut.

As your furniture’s design is different for different places within your home, the material of which they are made can be different too. Bedside cabinets are used in the bedroom: the material they are made of is usually wood. For bedside cabinets, it’s best to choose a dark wood such as oak or one which can be easily stained to look dark, such as pine. The advantage with naturally dark wood is that such types of wood tend to be harder and thus they will stand up to daily use a lot better than lighter woods. Of course such dark wood also has the great advantage that it simply looks better than any other material. It has a style and utility which other materials can only dream of. One final bonus is that if you search around you’ll be able to find dark wood furniture at a very reasonable price.

The construction of bedside cabinets in dark wood   has many steps. This starts with cutting the wood into planks or baulks, after which the wood is rough finished. When the wood is supplied to a furniture manufacturer he will usually sand and treat the wood, ensuring that an anti-fungal oil is allowed to soak through it. This process can take as long as three weeks! The wood is then either given to the craftsmen carpenters or if it is being used in mass manufacturing, fed into the assembly line. In both cases the finished product has to be oiled, waxed or varnished before being made available for sale. If you wish to check that a piece of furniture is a quality item either open one of the drawers or find a joint where two separate pieces of wood come together. Is the joint butted together using interlocking pieces of wood or is it only glued? Is the bottom of the drawer attached to the side by nails or is it too joined with interlinking wood. If in either case the joint is simply nailed or glued together, forget it. It is not a durable, quality piece of furniture.

Some people paint their wooden furniture to tone in with the existing or planned color scheme of the room where the furniture is going. This is not a good idea. The best option is to let wooden furniture remain its natural color because the original color of the dark wood gives a great impression. It’s an impression of beauty, solidity and style. A bedside cabinet in dark wood allows the owner to put their things on it. Usually such a cabinet has shelves in it, giving more room for things to be kept. This helps to make the room look neat and tidy. A table lamp can be placed on top of the bedside cabinet in dark wood to help the user to read at night. All in all a bedside cabinet in dark wood combines utility with beauty, durability and economy.
