Add durability in your house with extendable mahogany dining table

Mahogany wood is commonly used in making furniture and is known for its sturdiness and hard wearing qualities. The reddish brown color gives it a refined, timeless look and makes the dining area warm and alive. One of the most desirable qualities of mahogany woods is its rich uniform graining, which makes it ideal for all types of furniture. Dining tables made with mahogany have been used in the UK and the US since the eighteenth century. Even today, mahogany dining tables are popular, especially the extendable versions.

An extendable mahogany dining table performs the dual function of saving space when used normally and of seating a greater number of people when occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays or anniversaries arrive. Extendable mahogany tables are available in various sizes and shapes and can be extended in a number of ways. For instance a cozy table for two, can comfortably seat twelve people when four additional leaves are attached to it. These leaves are separate and should be stored flat. The leaves are easy to install before and remove after the dinner. The problem with this type of design is that you require space to store the leaves, although closets and under the bed spaces make good store places. Then there is the “drop leaf” extendable dining table, which has a hinged leaf at each end. You can extend the table by raising the leaf and supporting it with a bracket. This type of table is commonly purchased because it does not require any additional space for storing the extra leaves.

Extendable mahogany dining tables come in various sizes and shapes  such as rectangular, round, square and oval. Each shape looks magnificent and blends well with the décor of your home provided you have chosen the right style and the right shape. For instance, although circular tables are usually placed in small square shaped rooms, never try to squeeze in a square shaped or a circular table if your dining area is narrow: they seem to dominate the room. Similarly, a large room seems to swallow up small tables. A large to medium sized room is good for a rectangular or an oval table. Also the style of your extendable mahogany dining table matters a lot. Do not purchase a Victorian style table if the rest of your house has modern furnishing. However, do go for a Victorian extendable mahogany dining table if it blends well with the décor of your house. There are some beautiful secondhand crafted mahogany tables available for sale, but be careful to inspect them thoroughly for any major defects.

Like other dining tables, you need to take good care of your extendable mahogany dining table. You must polish it at least once a month to keep it new and shiny. To remove stains from your mahogany table use a nylon scrubber, mild soap and water. Mahogany furniture brings comfort and warmth to your house and is an asset in itself, while an extendable mahogany dining table is an investment which will stay in your family for generations if cared for properly.
