A Footstool for Computer Use, An Ergonomic Necessity

You might be settling in for a computer game marathon on-line, or maybe you make your living sitting in front of a keyboard all day. Whatever your reason for being seated in front of a computer, you want to be sure you exercise the best possible computer posture when you’re there. That means you want your monitor at eye level, your keyboard should be low enough to prevent forearm and wrist strain, and you want to ensure that your feet have a special footstool  for computer use.

We hear a lot about ergonomic furnishings for homes, offices and cars. These types of seats or furnishings are designed to promote good posture and prevent injury. You can even by garden tools with an ergonomic design. So, it strikes me as odd that you can’t find an ergonomic footstool for computer use. I have used a stool for my feet for years. If your legs are short, like mine, a stool can aid in preventing your lower thighs from chafing on the seat of the chair. After all, without a stool to hold them, then the weight of your unsupported feet are going to be dangling off the edge. I find that a small stool works well in just this situation.

Of course, you can buy good stools that are especially designed not just to support your foot, but also to soothe and pamper them, too. They have stools with built in heating units and some with massagers. The extras are not as important as ensuring the seat is the right height and properly placed the keep your feet where they are best supported and to lessen strain on the legs. Who knows? Maybe some genius furniture  designer will design a computer chair with an attached stool that is ergonomically effective? Until then, we’ll have to buy them separately or suffer.
