6 Tips On How To Furnish A Dark Room

Some premises are simply more challenging to furnish than the other ones, and dark rooms are just some of those challenging examples. So, if you are wondering how to furnish a dark room, whether it is a bedroom  or a living room, here are some of the basic tips you can benefit from:

6 Tips On How To Furnish A Dark Room

Choose light furniture

If your room is dark, equipping it with dark furniture will only make the matters worse.  So, the lighter your furniture is – the better. It is not necessary to stick to white furniture solutions (even though it is definitely advisable), but you should at least make sure to go with something as light as possible. For example, if you are furnishing the room with wood, you should choose ash, pine, or at the very least – light oak.

Go for compact solutions

Another way to brighten up your room is to choose compact furniture solutions. If you make sure that your room has a lot of open space, it will look lighter and more cheerful – even if the amount of natural light is poor. Do not worry if the room is big – you can still go with compact furniture and open up the middle of your room.

Enhance electric lighting

This is, probably, the most obvious solution. Sure, it will not always be helpful during the day, but enhanced electric lighting can prove very useful. Search for ways to light up not only the center of your room, but also its corners. Consider equipping the room with recessed lights, for instance.

Limit the number of accessories

Be very careful when it comes to accessorizing. Do not include any heavy drapes or bulky accessories. Do not cluster your walls with art and shelves. And, of course, do everything you can to open up your windows.

Choose monotonous colours

Even though contrasting colours generally look very impressive, this is not the best option for a dark room. To furnish a dark room successfully, you should better choose one colour palette (light one, as it was already mentioned) and stick to it while decorating. Sure, you can use a couple of different hues, but the main shade should better be the same.

Decorate with glass

Think of furnishing your room with glass – or at least the kind of furniture that has glass inserts. This is a very light and unobtrusive solution, and it will help to cheer up even the darkest room.

If you are also looking for tips how to furnish a dark room on a reasonable budget, you should start your search for furniture in big stores. In the UK, Furniture in Fashion  is one of those e-commerce sites that can offer you not only vast product selection, but also moderate pricing policy and quick delivery times. Yet, the best news is that anything from coffee tables to lighting bulbs can be found in the store – so, if you do not have much time for shopping, you can find all the items you need in one place.
