5 tips to organize office computer desk

Do you fear working at your office computer desk because it is cluttered with tons of papers and additional items you do not know what to do with? Are you uncomfortable with customers and colleagues seeing it? Do you waste your valuable time everyday looking for papers you know you have but cannot find in the mess? It does not have to be that way!

Having a systematized office computer desk is vital in order to keep focus for enhanced effectiveness, productivity and efficiency. Facing a messy, disorganized desk each day is stressful. Try the suggestions- if you do one a day, in five days you would love your office computer desk again. Think how impressed your colleagues and clients would be!

Tip #1- Eliminate any useless items from the top of your office computer desk. Avoid using the surface of your desk as a storing space. Create places for items that appear to accumulate there, or be well-organized about throwing out the things you do not need. Limit the office computer desk to items you use frequently: computer, paper, stapler, pens, clips, etc. Photographs of your pets, kids and true love can stay! Work-life balance is vital, after all.

Tip #2- You should not dump out the contents of the drawer! Doing that creates a mess and could discourage you right from the start. Instead, eliminate items one at a time, throwing any trash away as you go. Group similar items together while you put them back. Out with the outdated fliers and expired aspirin and! Let useless things go…it is liberating.

Tip #3- Have an Inbox on your office computer desk! Incoming mail, papers to file, notes from meetings…anything that is not urgent but requires attention goes into there. An Inbox helps stop the piling of papers on your floor or desk. Once begun, these piles could quickly grow beyond control! The secret to a fruitful Inbox is this: you must clean it out entirely at least twice a week.

Tip #4- Are business cards aggressively taking over your office computer desk  .? Are they dropping out of boxes, drawers, folders just behind you to get the time to contract with them? There are several ways to consolidate your business cards-books with plastic pages that have spaces for cards, rolodex-sort card organizers; you could even scan business cards! It is really up to you and depends on what you’re comfortable with. The essential thing is to collect them and do something with them!

Tip #5- Use an office computer desktop file arranger to preserve current projects that you are working on close by. This way you would not surrender to the temptation to store papers-do not stack your files! You can buy a file arranger for under $10, but before you buy one, think around how large it should be. Do you require one with two slots, or would one with five or six be good enough for your needs?

Get started now! The time you spend organizing your office computer desk is time well spent. This is your desk, your workstation and your career and the better you organize it, the better it will enhance your efficiency and eventually your payout.
