One of David Cameron’s key allies had taxpayer-funded furniture worth £2,000 delivered to his London home while he was claiming his expenses on a second home in Oxfordshire.
Tory culture spokesman Ed Vaizey bought the sofa, chairs and a table from the upmarket firm Oka, which was co-founded by the Tory leader’s mother-inlaw Lady Astor.
Commons officials initially turned down the claim as the furniture was delivered to an address other than his nominated second home
But the Wantage MP resubmitted the claim explaining that the furniture was delivered to his London address because ‘we would be in to collect it’. The bill was then paid.
Mr Vaizey has now paid back the £1,968.45 for the furniture because it was considered ‘higher quality than necessary’.
